No Swine Flu in Jamaica

The Ministry of Health is aware of reports circulating of alleged cases of Influenza A (H1N1) (Swine Flu) in the island. The Ministry is assuring members of the public that there is no truth to these rumours. Routine testing of persons with flu-like symptoms continue at health facilities and all our tests have so far been negative for Influenza A (H1N1).
The Ministry is continuing its vigilance and has stepped up its surveillance and monitoring of all persons coming through our ports. We have also been undertaking ongoing testing of samples. We are assuring the public that if any such cases are found, they will be notified.
Persons are being reminded that if they have flu-like symptoms to stay away from public places and limit contact with other persons. You may also call the Ministry of Health's toll free line at 1-888-663-5683 to get information on the Influenza A (H1N1) virus (Swine Flu).
Influenza A (H1N1) is a respiratory illness that is caused by the Influenza A virus. It is transmitted by human to human contact. The symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough, stuffy nose, headache and body aches and fatigue. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea may also be experienced.
