The Hon. Dean Peart
Minister of Local Government & Environment


Dean Alexander Peart who hails from the cool hills of Manchester gave up his own lucrative supermarket business to do "the people's business". He entered the political arena in 1986 and served as Mayor of Mandeville for four years. 

In 1989, he was assigned to the Ministry of Labour and Sports as Parliamentary Secretary after which he served as State Minister in a number of ministries including the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Local Government and Youth in 1993 and Ministry of Construction and Works. 

Minister Peart was also instrumental in co-coordinating the Lift Up Jamaica Programme in the parishes of St. Elizabeth and Manchester in 2000.

In April 2002 Dean Peart was appointed Minister of Labour and Social Security, and subsequently has been appointed Minister of Land and Environment in October 2002. He is presently the Minister of Local Government and Environment.

He is a graduate of the Northern Caribbean University formerly West Indies College.  He is married and is the father of four.
