Hon. Robert Pickersgill Minister of Housing,Transport,Water and Works Minister of Housing,Transport,Water and Works, Robert Dixon Pickersgill, has had portfolio responsibility for three different Ministries since elected Member of Parliament for North Western St. Catherine, and being appointed to the Cabinet in 1989. A graduate of Clarendon College and the University of the West Indies, where he attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Diploma in Education, Minister Pickersgill also sat the English Solicitors Qualifying Examination. He has had short stints with teaching and law careers before settling into the political arena. A longtime member of the Peoples National Party (PNP) Executive dating back to 1969, he was elected as the First Chairman of the PNP Youth Organisation and served as a former Councillor of the Kingston and St. Andrew Mountain View Division. His first Ministerial appoin-tment came in 1989 as Minister of Public Utilities and Transport. He then officiated as Minister of Public Utilities, Mining and Energy from 1993 to 1995. He returned to serve as Minister of Public Utilities and Transport in 1995, and by which time his portfolio was broadened to include Energy. Minister Pickersgill switched gears and from 1998 to 2001 headed the Ministry of Mining and Energy before taking up the portfolio of Transport and Works. The Minister is of the United Church faith and a fan of sporting activities that include lawn tennis, and swimming. He is also a partner of the law firm, Knight, Pickersgill, Dowding and Samuels. |
