The
Hon. Paul Robertson
Minister of Development
Hon. Paul Robertson, former educator and newly appointed Minister of
Development, is no stranger to the political arena. Minister Robertson
embarked on his political career in 1978 as Special Assistant to then
Prime Minister, Michael Manley, and functioned in other posts within
the People's National Party's administration.
Mr. Robertson has served in a myriad of government positions. Firstly,
as Minister of Public Service in 1992, then as Minister of Industry,
Investment and Commerce from 1995 to 1997. He subsequently served as
Minister of Industry and Commerce between 1998 and 2000.
Minister Robertson was also given the responsibility of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 1993 and again from 2000 to 2002, until
his appointment to his new post as Minister of Development.
The past Jamaica College scholar holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics
and a Masters of Science Degree in Government from the University of
the West Indies and a Doctorate from the University of Michigan. With
over six years of teaching experience to his credit, Minister Robertson
has authored three publications: "Party Organization in Jamaica",
"Attitude of Senior Civil Servants in Jamaica" and "The
Ruling Class Attitudes". As a result of his continued commitment
to education he was appointed Chairman of the Board of JAMAL Foundation.
Minister Robertson is married with two daughters.
