Hon. Maxine Henry-Wilson Ministry of Education & Youth First time Member of Parliament, Maxine Henry-Wilson, is one of three female Ministers in the new 14-member Cabinet. She now heads the Ministry of Education & Youth and holds the firm belief that education is the tool for effective change. She has expressed the view that "a nation that is well learned is a nation with greater capacity to stand on its own". Prior to her appointment, Minister Henry-Wilson served as Minister of Information as well as Minister Without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister. A former Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Minister Henry-Wilson has had a long and successful sojourn as the General Secretary of the ruling People's National Party (PNP). The new Education Minister was born in Manchester, Jamaica. She attended Vaz Preparatory School, St. Andrew High School, the University of the West Indies, Mona, and Rutger's State University, United States. Mrs. Henry-Wilson is the holder of two Masters degrees - one in Public Administration and the other in Public Policy. She has taught at St. Hugh's High School in Kingston and the University of the West Indies, Mona. The Minister is married and has one child. |
