The Hon. Roger Clarke
Minister of Agriculture
& Land

Befitting one who recently reclaimed his title as the Minister of Agriculture & Land, Roger Clarke is a farmer.

Born in Westmoreland, where he attended Mannings High School, he was employed in a number of farming-related activities from an early age, which helped to prepare him for his current position.

He has had a varied and interesting political career. In 1986 he was elected Councillor of the Balaclava Division and later, Mayor of Black River and Chairman of the St. Elizabeth Parish Council - a position which he held for five years. During this period he also served a four-year term as President of the Association of Local Government Authorities.

In 1992 he was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, a position, which he held for three years and in 1995, was promoted as Minister of Local Government and Works. Minister Clarke performed creditably at the Local Government and Works Ministry, but in recognition of his ability and experience in the farming sector, was returned to the Ministry of Agriculture, this time as Minister.

Minister Clarke is a Vice President of the Peoples National Party and President of the Alliance of Caribbean Ministers of Agriculture.

He is married with two children.
