St. Thomas to Highlight Alternative Sources of Energy at Denbigh

Persons attending the Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show in Clarendon from August 1 to 3, will be able to view an exhibit on alternative sources of energy.
The display is being set up at the pavilion of the St. Thomas office of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA).
Deputy Parish Manager at the St. Thomas RADA office, Peter Thompson, told JIS News that the display would highlight a bio-digester system, solar energy and wind farm. He said the information on alternative energy sources was documented by the RADA staff, assisted by students of the Pennsylvania State University, United States, who worked at the office for five weeks.
"We have gathered valuable and vital information, which we have put in booklet form as well as Power Point and we will be displaying those at Denbigh," he said.
Mr. Thompson explained that the main reason for focusing on alternative energy is to show persons, especially farmers attending the show, how waste material generated from a farm can be converted to energy to run the farm.
"If you're operating a farm and you have waste material from a pig farm or other livestock, you can see how you can make a very simple process, which can produce gas," he added.
Mr. Thompson cited the increasing cost of electricity, which was a major concern to farmers at this time. "Because of what is happening with oil, the price of energy will always be going up and if we can look at alternative sources, clean sources, then I think that is the way to go," he argued.
