Jamaica Aids Support and the Good Shepherd Foundation will benefit from the collection during the Independence Service of Praise and Thanksgiving, organised by the Jamaican High Commission in London.

The annual service, scheduled for Saturday, August 6 at the Parish Church of St. Martin in the Fields in Trafalgar Square, will highlight the celebrations to mark Jamaica's 43rd anniversary of independence in the United Kingdom.

Reverend Dr. Byron Chambers, President of the Jamaica Methodist District Conference will preach the sermon; High Commissioner, Gail Mathurin will read the Prime Minister's Independence message, while the children of the Shabach Outreach Ministries, Huddersfield will say the national pledge. Kerry Ann Henry will do a special dance of praise.
The renowned Edmonton New Testament Church of God Choir will render songs, while Jamaica Defence Force Sergeant, Albert Hird, a student at the Royal Military School of Music, will perform. A special Evensong on August 2, will be held at the Westminster Abbey.
In addition to those official events, community organisations and groups from across the United Kingdom are holding special events, church services and charity dances.
