Friends of Mustard Seed Communities Stage Annual Fundraiser in New York

The Friends of Mustard Seed Communities will stage its annual fundraising luncheon on September 23 at the New York Hilton and Towers in New York City.
Proceeds from the event will benefit orphans, children with special needs, families with HIV/AIDS, battered women and other vulnerable persons served by the charity. The money will also be used to repair nine of the 13 homes, which were damaged by Hurricane Dean, which impacted Jamaica on August 19.
Dr. Basil Wilson, distinguished Professor in Residence at the City University of New York (CUNY) will be the keynote speaker at the event, which will bring together the Caribbean community in New York for a worthy cause.
The glittering and popular fund-raising event will include a fashion show themed: 'Walking on Sunshine' featuring the collections of leading New York designers. Soloist Karina Cole accompanied by violinist Patricia Cole will provide musical entertainment.
The highlight of the fundraiser will be the drawing of the Mustard Seed raffle, which has a grand prize of a three-night stay at Half Moon Club in Rose Hall, with air transport provided by Air Jamaica.
This year's event will also pay homage to Robert J. Baker, President (Ret.) of Bowne Enterprise Solutions and Dr. Marcia V. Keizs, President, York College, CUNY.
Mustard Seed Communities is a not-for-profit organization that began in Jamaica in 1978 to provide assistance for the poor in urban communities and later established a home for children with disabilities, who had been abandoned or orphaned.
More than 28 years later, Mustard Seed Communities provides caring, sharing and training for children, youth and adults in 14 communities throughout the Caribbean, Central America, and Africa, with more than 20 outreach programmes.
At the forefront of Mustard Seed's expansion is the creation of village communities for orphaned babies, children with disabilities and special needs, families living with HIV/AIDS, pregnant teens and battered women.
