Post and Telecommunications Department

The Post and Telecommunications Department provides an efficient postal service for both local and foreign mail and also manages the national radio frequency spectrum services. The main responsibilities are to:

Maintain and improve the postal services both locally and overseas
Sell stamps and other postal stationery
Manage the radio frequency spectrum, and geo-stationery satellite orbits to ensure the availability of radio frequencies and orbital locations for the development of radio services in the country
Cash National Insurance pension vouchers and limited banking services on behalf of Union Bank

Post Offices and Postal Agencies

Post offices island-wide are located strategically to provide services such as ordinary, registered and parcel mail, receipt and delivery. The main services offered are the sale of stamps and postal and money orders encashment. In addition to communication through the dispatch and receipt of mail, post offices perform several services on behalf of other Government departments. These include the payment of pensions on behalf of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, registration of births and deaths on behalf of the Registrar General, and banking services on behalf of the Union Bank.
