Students Benefit From Kiwanis Breakfast Programme In St. Ann
Some 50 students from three schools in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, are now benefitting from a breakfast programme, initiated by the Kiwanis Club of St. Ann.
The schools include Parry Town Primary, Ocho Rios Primary and the One Love Basic School.
Majorie Robinson, 1st Vice President of the club, told JIS News that the breakfast programme, which started about three weeks ago, was put in place to ensure that students were fed between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
"We saw the need, because over at Ocho Rios Primary, there are those students on the morning shift, who leave their breakfast in order to get to school early, and, also, some children do not eat very early, and so we see the programme benefiting them," she said.
Mrs. Robinson said each of the schools is provided with a cook, and the breakfast included cornmeal or oats porridge, fried dumplings and scrambled eggs, and a hot beverage of soya or powdered milk.
Teacher at the One Love Basic School, Lorna Morrison, said the programme was a "very good one", which was going well, benefiting 10 students at that institution.
