Minister of National Security, Hon. Peter Bunting, has announced that legislation to curtail the illicit lotto scam could be passed as early as March.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday (January 16) at the Ministry’s offices in New Kingston, Mr. Bunting said a draft document has been completed and will be tabled in Parliament by February.
“It’s getting comments from all the stakeholders now. We expect it to be tabled in Parliament by February and certainly passed by the end of the fiscal year,” he stated.
The Security Minister said this new legislation will provide further assistance to law enforcers in their operations against the scammers.
He further noted that the draft document was developed through consultation with a number of stakeholders, including members of the business community.
The lotto scam has been blamed for a number of murders in the western end of the island.
