OPM Website among Growing Numbers of Government Sites using Cost Effective Drupal System

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) website has been listed on the site of Drupal founder, Dutch born developer, Dries Buytaert, one of a growing number of international public sector websites that now use Drupal as its core Content Management Framework. The listing includes the Australian Government, the French Government portal, the British Government and most recently, the White House.
The listing is seen by the Central Information Technology Office (CITO), an agency of the Office of the Prime Minister (Telecommunication portfolio), that its policy of promoting the Drupal Content management System and Open Source Software in general was a progressive decision.
The policy to use Drupal can potentially reduce website development costs by about US$10,000. This is a significant IT expense for a developing country. The policy has encouraged local developers to gain expertise in the system and they are also designing modules to satisfy local needs.
Trevor Forrest, one of the directors of CITO, notes that, "We have been on a campaign to promote the use of Open Source Software across government because of the tremendous cost savings that can be realized.
The use of Drupal as the Content Management Systems for Government of Jamaica Websites is a critical component in this effort. Its modular design and superior platform integration capabilities ensures that there is virtually nothing that you cannot do with that platform."
The Cabinet Office, Central Information Technology Office, and the Ministry of Justice are currently using Drupal with more entities to follow.
