Chief of Defence Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Major General Stewart Saunders has encouraged new members to make use of the opportunities that the JDF offers.

He was speaking at the Passing Out Parade for members of intakes 98 and 10 on June 7, at the Moneague Training Camp in St. Ann.

"Today really signals the commencement of a journey that offers you a myriad of opportunities for service and advancement. You must strive to avail yourselves of the necessary training, educational and developmental possibilities that are characteristic of the Jamaica Defence Force," Major General Saunders said.

Turning to the high level of crime that was plaguing the society, he explained that one of the roles of the JDF was to work collaboratively with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) in the maintenance of law and order across the length and breadth of the country.

"You, the members of intakes 98 and 10 are the latest addition to the family and we heartily welcome you. We are proud of your achievements and we say to you now, ensure that you live up to expectations outlined. Endeavour to serve well in the interest of your organisation and the country, Jamaica," he charged.

With some 44 females added to the JDF, Training Officer, Sergeant Charmaine Emmanuel told JIS News that she was happy for their success, informing that the training started out with 51 females.

"It was hectic, it was challenging, but yes, they did what was taught to them and I guess it paid off today," she said, commending the female graduates on the hard work and level of determination they demonstrated throughout the training.

Female graduate, Private Kadeon Huslin said she was feeling proud of herself, as she had received the award for Best Recruit.

"I am so proud of myself. I cannot believe that this day has finally come and I am so happy for my achievement," she told JIS News.
