ABOUT THE ACCESS TO INFORMATION UNIT
The Access to Information Unit (A. T. I. U.) has been established to spearhead and guide the implementation and administration of the Access to Information Act, which was passed in June 2002. The Unit falls under the Jamaica Archives and Records Department in the Office of the Prime Minister.
OUR MISSION
 
To provide guidance and training for government bodies on how to interpret and administer the Act;

To identify and address difficult or problematic issues arising from implementation of the Act ;

To provide policy recommendations on how best these problems may be addressed;

To monitor compliance with the Act and provide guidance and advice for the public and Government Bodies;

To educate the public in respect of their rights and obligations
under the Act.


OUR PROJECTS
Conduct training/sensitization seminars for public sector workers and civil society on the interpretation and application of the Act ;
   

Establish public education programmes;

   
Produce and disseminate educational materials;
   
Establish and maintain sound communication between the state and the public;
   
Monitor and guide compliance with the Act;
   
Ensure and facilitate further development and strengthening of records management procedures.
