Mission Statement
The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is responsible for
the promotion and protection of Jamaica's interests. This includes
the safeguarding of the welfare of Jamaican nationals overseas and
the management of the country's foreign relations so as to contribute
to its social, economic and cultural development through a process
of bilateral and multilateral initiatives.
To
achieve the forgoing the ministry is committed to:

promoting friendship and cooperation with foreign countries around
the world.
- monitoring
and responding appropriately to external political, economic,
commercial and trade developments which impact on Jamaica.
- ensuring
the effective representation of the Government of Jamaica at international
conferences and bilateral and multilateral meetings and negotiations.
- negotiating
scientific, cultural, economic and trade agreements which protect
and promote Jamaica's development objectives.
- enhancing
Jamaica's image abroad and promoting its resources and tourism
product.
- ensuring
the promotion and protections of the interests of Jamaican nationals
overseas.
- issuing
travel documents - passports for Jamaican nationals and visas
for citizens of other countries who wish to visit Jamaica.
- facilitating
the smooth relocation of returning residents.
- sensitizing
the media and the public about international issues of importance
to Jamaica.
