April 3 (JIS): |
A
sum of $60 million has been allotted to the Flood Damage Rehabilitation
Project in the Ministry of Transport and Works to complete all road
rehabilitation programmes under that project, construct a new bridge
and provide final payment for land acquisition, resettlement, retention,
and consultant supervision.
The funds, which have been designated in the 2004/2005 Estimates of
Expenditure now before the House of Representatives, will also go
toward sea defense; rehabilitating four bridges and providing river
training at 24 locations.
The project, which is aimed at assisting the Government of Jamaica
in its programme to restore flood damaged roads, is jointly funded
by the Caribbean Development Bank.
Just last month some 106 kilometres of road sections islandwide was
completed while construction and rehabilitation activities were carried
out on drainage, pavement, retaining walls and river training. In
addition, segment one of the North Coast Highway was completed and
remedial works undertaken.
