KINGSTON, April 6 (JIS):
The Public Health Laboratory project has been allocated $3.1 million in the Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.

The money will be used to continue the improvements to laboratory facilities, in order to strengthen and support the delivery of primary and secondary health care.

A joint collaboration between the Government and the European Union, the project commenced in July 1987 and is being implemented by the Ministry of Health.

For this fiscal year, the installation of storm shutters at the laboratory will be completed.

Achievements up to December 2001 included the construction of laboratory complete with equipment, the training of support staff, technical assistance for the re-organization of the laboratory completed, and upgrading of the Blood Collection Centre at the National Chest Hospital.
