China... A Valued Partner of Jamaica... PM Golding

Prime Minister Bruce Golding, says that China has long been valued friend and important partner of Jamaica and this partnership is especially important to the island at this time, when the country is experiencing the impact of the global economic crisis.
The Prime Minister said that both countries were currently engaged in discussions towards further co-operation and assistance through projects, to be financed under a special loan facility of 4 billion Yen. Discussions he said, are also being held with a number of Chinese entrepreneurs in relation to various major investment projects and a number of Memoranda of Understanding are to be signed shortly.
Montego Bay Convention Centre Strategic Addition to Tourism Product, Says PM

Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding, has said that the Montego Bay Convention Centre, being constructed at Rose Hall, St James, will be a strategic addition to Jamaica's tourism product and infrastructure.
"For Jamaica it is a significant development. For tourism stakeholders; a dream come true," Mr. Golding told a groundbreaking ceremony held at the site this morning(Sat, Feb 14), at which visiting Vice President of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping, who was on a 3-day official visit to Jamaica, was special guest.
Chinese VP Receives Key to the City of Montego Bay

Vice President of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping, was presented with the Key to the City of Montego Bay, at an official dinner hosted by the Mayor of the city, His Worship, Councillor Charles Sinclair Jnr., at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on Friday(Feb 13).
The Vice President, who was in Montego Bay on an official visit, arrived in the city on Friday and held discussions with the Mayor and a team of Councillors from the St. James Parish Council on several issues of economic and cultural importance, in the afternoon.

Vice President of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping, arrived at the Sangster International Airport last night (Feb 13) for a visit to Montego Bay.
The Vice President, accompanied by his official party, was met by Minister of Transport and Works, The Hon. Mike Henry, Minister of Water and Housing, Dr. The Hon. Horace Chang, Minister of Tourism, The Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Energy, The Hon.Clive Mullings, Mayor of Montego Bay, His Worship, Councilor Charles Sinclair, and representatives of the tourism fraternity.
Confucius Institute Opens at the UWI

A Confucius Institute, the first of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean, was officially launched at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, today (February 13).
A plaque was also presented to Vice President of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping, who is in the island on a four-day official visit.
China Extends Over $10 Billion in Aid to Jamaica

The Governments of Jamaica and the People's Republic of China yesterday Thursday (Feb. 12) signed agreements to facilitate expansion of technical and economic cooperation, which will assist Jamaica to the tune of approximately US$118 million (J$10 billion).
Prime Minister Bruce Golding and Vice President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, headed teams of officials from both countries, who participated in the signing ceremony at Jamaica House, formalizing the framework for the support which Jamaica will receive from China.

Gov't Moving to Secure Greater Share of Chinese Travel MarketFebruary 13, 2009
The government of Jamaica is moving to secure a greater share of the fast growing Chinese travel market, with estimates are that as many as 90 million Chinese could be traveling abroad annually over the next couple of years.
"Although last year, we had only a little over 1,000 Chinese visitors to Jamaica, this year, we are looking at improvements in this area," said Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett.

Governments of Jamaica and China to Sign Bilateral AgreementsFebruary 11, 2009
The Governments of Jamaica and China are expected to sign a number of agreements covering the areas of agriculture, finance, education and infrastructural development, with the visit of the Vice President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping.
The Chinese Vice President is expected to arrive in the island tomorrow evening at the start of a four day official visit from Feb 11-14, 2009. He will arrive at the Norman Manley International Airport and will be met by Prime Minister Bruce Golding and other Government Officials, as well as members of the Chinese business community.

Jamaica will be hosting the first ever Chinese familiarisation trip from February 9 to 15, planned for travel trade partners, media and representatives from the business network, to be exposed to the diversity of Jamaica's offerings in accommodation and attractions.
The group, comprising 17 members, will be here on the invitation extended by Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, to the Chinese travel trade, during the Beijing Olympics.

Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Jamaica, His Excellency Chen Jinghua, has said that bilateral relations would be strengthened, through dialogue and the signing of agreements, when Vice-President Xi Jinping and his delegation arrive in the island on February 11, for a four-day visit.
Ambassador Chen told JIS News that, "the general purpose is to strengthen bilateral relations, by having meetings with leaders of this country, through discussions, for deeper mutual understanding, and to explore ways and means and the possibility of adopting more mutually beneficial co-operative projects in various fields."
