Catadupa Water Supply System Commissioned into Service

The district of Catadupa in South St. James now has a reliable water supply and distribution system.
Minister of State for Water and Housing, Hon. Everald Warmington, yesterday, (March 15) officially commissioned the system into service, which was built at a cost of approximately $23 million through the joint efforts of the Ministry through the Rural Water Supply Limited, Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), and the Catadupa Benevolent Society. The Catadupa system can supply up to 103,000 gallons of potable water per day.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held in the Catadupa Square,
Mr. Warmington said that water is an important commodity to the sustainable development of rural communities, adding that it is an empowering resource.
"By providing our communities with a safe reliable source of water, we are equipping them with the potential to attract new business, and improve on existing ones. This, in turn, will act as a catalyst to increase employment opportunities and substantial development within our rural communities," he stated.
He thanked JSIF for its assistance in the project and implored residents to take care of the system.
General Manager for Technical Services at JSIF, Mr. Omar Sweeney, in his address, praised the work of the Catadupa Benevolent Society, while Member of Parliament for South St. James, Mr. Derrick Kellier, said that with the establishment of the Catadupa scheme, thought must now be given to extending the system to adjoining districts.
Mr. Kellier also praised JSIF for its efforts towards assisting rural communities through the implementation of infrastructural projects.
